My position as program head for Advertising and Graphic Design at Stanly Community College has been to develop curriculum and maintain a full time instruction load within the curriculum through seated and on-line instruction. As the program advisor I advise students through the curriculum pathways, and as a classroom instructor I teach graphic design principles and process as well as basic to advanced skills with the Adobe suite of multimedia tools. I also art direct student projects through guided interactive critiques as we look to develop their individual visual communication styles throughout the two year curriculum. Tasks outside the classroom have found me engaging in community outreach through school visits, summer camps, and presentations at the SCC Small Business Center. As the face of our program, promotion of the program and the field of graphic design in general has been an important component to maintain community awareness. When contacted I have been able to contribute to design needs on campus and within the community through projects that range from brochure design, to web design, and identity design.
